Silas Beatty had come west after the War Between the States looking for something. The seemingly endless cattle drive from Texas to Montana had been a good start.

Drifting back south, he had worked for the railroad, hunted Buffalo, and anything else to make a dollar. He had lived with, worked with, and fought Indians along the way.
